A Cinematic Journey of Erhu and Chamber Music @ East Kowloon
Future Traditions – Erhu Ensemble Dance and Bamboo Melody is the first programme of Bamboo Melody's 'Excellent Chamber Ensemble Exchange Programme', conducted by assistant conductor Chi-pun Sit, featuring special guests Yang Xue, professor and head of plucked string department of the Chinese Instrumental Music Department at the Central Conservatory of Music, and the Erhu (Huqin) Ensemble Dance that she initiated and serves as artistic director in 2009. With erhu as the main focus, the performance will take place at the newly opened East Kowloon Cultural Centre in Hong Kong, which specializes in the fusion of art and technology. It will showcase the contemporary development of erhu art in the field of ensemble and various combinations through a series of cinematic journeys of erhu and chamber music. The programme includes captivating pieces such as 'Nine Heavens' by Chen Jinpai, 'Erhu Ensemble Dance' by Li Bozhan, 'Playful' by Yang Xue, 'Red Velvet' by Chen Yunyun, 'Drizzle' by Zhang Chun, 'Spirit World' by Zeng YeFa, 'Three Colours of Opera Charm' by Zhao Yuanchun, 'Brocade' by Su Xiao, 'Century' by Chen Xinruo, and 'Eagle Totem' by Li Bozhan.
The 'Future Traditions' project by Bamboo Melody explores the creative space of contemporary Chinese chamber music and raises awareness of the passing down of Hong Kong's Chinese orchestral culture. Music development is interconnected with each era, and every generation has its unique style, not only echoing the changes of the time but also creating traditions for the next generation. The project aims to construct 'Future Traditions' rooted in the past by promoting and commissioning works by Hong Kong composers.
